These bright shorties were knit from Blue Faced Leicester (BFL) dyed by Wooly Wonders by Nada in royal blue. The stripe around the hips is the coveted "Goldfish" dyed by Dashing Dachs. I really love these shorties and if they don't sell, I'll be keeping them for my little guy... who will, by the way, turn ONE in just a week! I should get busy on a birthday set for him, huh?
I have not been knitting much these days and I've been blogging even less. Three weeks ago my husband, Matt, was involved in a very serious car accident. He was in Missouri and the truck he was riding in hit a patch of ice on the road and the driver (my father, who suffered a detached retina in the accident and is doing well after surgery himself) lost control and went off the road. The truck slid down a very steep embankment and hit a grove of trees. The airbags on Matt's side of the truck were turned off and though he was buckled in, he hit his head on the windshield, resulting in some brain hemmorhaging. In addition, he broke his neck in five places- C1, C2, C5, C6 and C7, broke his femur (thigh bone) and crushed his ankle. Though the accident happened in Missouri, Matt was airlifted to Memphis because of their state of the art trauma center. Matt was in the ICU for a week, during which time he had two surgeries- he now has a titanium rod in his thigh and had his ankle put back together with plates, pins and 'bone cement.' He had some complications- the hemmorhages in his brain and a clot in his lungs- but we were able to get him home and he is on the road to healing. The worst part was just getting through that first week in the ICU-- he and I were in Memphis, our kids were being babysat by friends and family here in North Carolina.
This is one of my favorite sets. I love the way this yarn- Blue Faced Leicester, dyed by Wooly Wonder by Nada in their "Pink Camo" colorway- patterned up. The matching diaper was made by Amanda at Sweetiebums.
For the most part, I took a good long break after the holidays to enjoy my family and focus on school. I also helped plan a huge event here in Greensboro: two screenings of The Business of Being Born, along with discussion panels and silent auction. The event was huge and went off with nary a hitch, we even raised a good $1500 to benefit NC Friends of Midwives! But planning and executing the event left me exhausted and my immune system shot... and I've been sick for nearly two weeks. I did get some knitting done, though!
These are the pants I posted about yesterday.
Yarn is Cascade Eco, dyed by Brad at Wooly Wonders by Nada in their Black Silver Rainbow colorway.
Other photos are uploaded in my photo album, as well...
I've knitted two pairs of pants in the last week or so. The first I did not manage to snap a photo of before I delivered them to my customer, the second pair is drying right now and I'll update the blog with photos tomorrow. Both pairs are for Miss Elle, and I dyed a matching dress for the first pair. Her mama said she wore it on Christmas day, so I am hoping she'll oblige me with photos soon. Miss Elle is adorable and makes a fabulous model for my knitteds.
Lindsay from Ky Baby Knits has provided a copies of her adorable Hudson Hat and Ear Cozy patterns for me to use during our Triad Birth Advocacy screening of The Business of Being Born. We're planning a silent auction to benefit NC Friends of Midwives, so I hope to have enough time to knit a few hats for that. If you are local, please make plans to attend: January 26 and 27 at Guilford College in Greensboro. Email Heather, Heather or Lacey at triadbirthadvocacy@yahoo.com for more info. It's a good cause- please help all midwives be mandated & legal in NC.
I've been busy finishing up knitteds in time for holiday shipping and though I shipped out a package of 12 (!!!) BBMG Minis to a certain mama-friend, I wasn't able to snap a photo in time. I've got one little guy to go and I'll be finished with those that I need to ship.
I am still working on two pairs of pants for Miss Elle, I got sidetracked with the holidays and school and our birth advocacy group and school and kids and such. She, and her mom and pops are leaving on Saturday to visit family up north, so I am going to bust my butt trying to get those finished for her in time. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
A while back, when I had nothing on my plate, I knit my little one a hat. Just scraps and leftovers from my other projects... I didn't have time to finish it when I got slammed again with orders, so it sat in my knitting basket for 3 months! But when we woke up this morning and it was under 30 degrees, I figured it was time to finish it. She is so thrilled with it... she didn't even notice that I didn't weave in the ends!
