03.30.08 Update
I have not been knitting much these days and I've been blogging even less. Three weeks ago my husband, Matt, was involved in a very serious car accident. He was in Missouri and the truck he was riding in hit a patch of ice on the road and the driver (my father, who suffered a detached retina in the accident and is doing well after surgery himself) lost control and went off the road. The truck slid down a very steep embankment and hit a grove of trees. The airbags on Matt's side of the truck were turned off and though he was buckled in, he hit his head on the windshield, resulting in some brain hemmorhaging. In addition, he broke his neck in five places- C1, C2, C5, C6 and C7, broke his femur (thigh bone) and crushed his ankle. Though the accident happened in Missouri, Matt was airlifted to Memphis because of their state of the art trauma center. Matt was in the ICU for a week, during which time he had two surgeries- he now has a titanium rod in his thigh and had his ankle put back together with plates, pins and 'bone cement.' He had some complications- the hemmorhages in his brain and a clot in his lungs- but we were able to get him home and he is on the road to healing. The worst part was just getting through that first week in the ICU-- he and I were in Memphis, our kids were being babysat by friends and family here in North Carolina.
